Had several sons and daughters; his younger brother Matthew Nicholas (1594-1661) was successively dean of Bristol, canon of Westminster and dean of St Paul's. See The Nicholas Papers, edited by G. F. Private correspondence between Nicholas and Charles I. will be found in the Memoirs of John Evelyn, edited by W. Bray (London, 1827); The Edgerton MSS. and the Ormonde Papers contain many references to Nicholas.
