"WALLACE CLEMENT WARE SABINE (1868-1919), American educator, was born at Richwood, 0., June 13 1868. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1886 at the age of 18 and after two years' further study at Harvard received the degree of A.M. In 1889 he was made assistant in physics at Harvard and the following year instructor. After passing through the usual stages of promotion he was appointed professor of mathematics and natural philosophy in 1905 and the following year assumed the deanship of the newly organized Graduate School of Applied Science. He was an inspiring teacher but his publications were confined to papers contributed to scientific journals. In 1916 he went to France as exchange professor at the Sorbonne but devoted most of his time to removing French tuberculous patients to Switzerland under the auspices of the Rockefeller Foundation. In 1917, however, he lectured on architectural acoustics, a subject of which he had made a special study. He himself fell a victim to tuberculosis and died in Cambridge, Mass., Jan. io 1919.
