Kitto's Popular Cyclopedia of Biblical Literature
Aven, a plain, 'the plain of the sun,' of Damascene Syria (Amos 1:5). It is usually supposed to be the same as the plain of Baalbec, or valley of Baal, where there was a magnificent temple dedicated to the sun.
