Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(αἰών , an age), originally, the life or duration of any person or thing. In the system of Gnosticism we find the term used to signify spiritual beings who emanated from the Deity, and who presided over the various periods of the history of the world. (See GNOSTICS).
