Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
(αἰχμαλωτάρχης ) an imaginary title (Carpzov, Apparat. Crit. p. 8 sq.), signifying chief of the captives, assigned to the heads of the Jewish families during the captivity (q.v.).
