an Italian priest, historian, and philologist, was born at Poirino, near Turin, Nov. 4, 1768. He was educated at Rome, took orders in the Roman Catholic Church, and was sent to Ragusa, where he became professor of rhetoric. When the French seized Ragusa, Napoleon placed him at the head of the academy in that city.
