Aurifex

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(or Aurificus, Ital. Buonigli), NICHOLAS, an Italian theologian, was born at Sienna in 1529. He belonged to the order of Carmelites and distinguished himself as a preacher. In 1565 he taught theology in Florence, and' in 1578 he became dean: of the faculty, then provincial for all Tuscany. He died in 1601. Aurifex wrote, among other works,. De Dignitate Vites et Mloribus Clericorum (Venice, 1568; Cologne, 1610): Meditazion di Diversi, Dottori di S. Chiesa, Tradotte e Corrette (Venice, 1583,1596) :-Somma Aurfica (ibid. 1003).
