(Βεέλτεθμος v. r. Βεελτεμώθ , Vulg. Balthemus), given as the name of an officer of Artaxerxes residing in Palestine (1 Esdras 2:16; 1 Esdras 2:25); evidently a corruption of בְּעֵל טְעֵם, lord of judgment, A. V. "chancellor;" the title of Rehum, the name immediately before it (Ezra 4:8).
