Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

is a festival of Bhairav, celebrated among the Hindus, when, according to promise, his votaries suspend themselves in the air by hooks passed through the muscles of the back, and allow themselves thus to be whirled in his honor round a circle of fifty or sixty feet in circumference.
