a Swiss scholar, was born in December 1759. After being preceptor in Switzerland, then in Holland, he was successively pastor of the French Church at Basle, at Cassonay, in the canton of Vaud, and finally professor of the interpretation of the books of the saints and the Oriental languages at Lausanne, where he died, February 5, 1821.
