Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

an. Irishman, was bishop of Cork and Ross, to which sees he was promoted in 1709, and died August 25, 1735. He left many works, among them A Reply to the Infidel Toland (Dublin, 1697, 8vo): On the Custom of Drinking to the Memory of the Dead, in reply to a divine who justified the practice (ibid. 1715, 12mo): On the Evil qf Drinking Healths (1716, 1722). He also wrote remarks on a work of the bishop of Raphoe, entitled A Clear and Easy Method, by means of which a man of moderate capacity may attain to a satisfactory knowledge of the things which belong to his eternal salvation (ibid. 1716).
