represents in the Auth. Vers. the following Hebrew words: מַלָּה, millah'(Job 30:9), a word or speech (as elsewhere rendered); מָשָׁל, mashal' (Psalms 44:14), a proverb or parable (as elsewhere); so the kindred מְשֹׁל, meshol' (Job 17:6); but properly: שְׁנַינָה, sheninah', sharp words in derision (Deuteronomy 28:37; 1 Kings 9:7; 2 Chronicles 7:20; "taunt," Jeremiah 24:9).
