a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church South, was born in Sumter District, S. C., Oct. 31,1830. He was converted in 1850; began preaching in 1853, and in the same year entered the Alabama Conference. He died July 19, 1869. As a preacher Mr. Garter was gifted and eloquent.
