Cross of Absolution
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
was a metal cross, inscribed with a papal absolution, buried in graves. Specimens have been found at Meaux, Mayence, Perigueux, and Bury St. Edmund's. One of a bishop, cir. 1088, is preserved at Chichester.
