wife of Henry of Bavaria, who afterwards became emperor. She was crowned with her husband by pope Benedict VIII, A.D. 1014. According to the Roman Acts of the Saints, she had made a vow of virginity, and her husband suspecting her fidelity, she "walked over red-hot ploughshares without being hurt," and thus vindicated her innocence!
