Day, John

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

an English clergyman, was born in Aldersgate Street, London, in 1566, and was educated at St. Alban's Hall, Oxford; in 1588 was elected a fellow of Oriel College; entered into holy orders, and became a favorite preacher in the university; travelled three years previous to 1608, when he obtained the vicarage of St. Mary's, in Oxford; and died at Thurlow, Suffolk, in 1627. He published some sermons, among which the best are Conciones ad Cler- um (Oxon, 1612, 1615):also Commentaries on the First Eight Psalms (ibid. 1620). See Chalmers, Biog.
