Flattich, Johann Friedrich

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

a German theologian and educator, was born in 1713 at Beyhingen, near Ludwigsburg. After studying theology at Tobingen, he became in succession preacher of the garrison of Hohenasberg (1742), past-or of Metterzimmern (1747), and pastor at Munchingen (1760). At the latter place he died in 1797. - Flattich wrote a number of works and essays on education, as Hausregeln, Vom Ehestand, Untesrschiedliche Gedanken, Von der Auferziehung der Kinder. Most of his works are collected in Ledderhose, Leben and Schriften des J. F. Flattich (3d edit. Heidelberg, 1856). He also enjoyed the reputation of being one of the most successful educators in Southern Germany, and was on intimate terms with many of the prominent men of that period.
