Gap

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(פֶּרֶוֹ , pe'rets, a breach, as elsewhere rendered), a rent or opening in a wail (Ezekiel 13:5; comp. Amos 4:3). The Jewish false prophets did not stand in the gap (Ezekiel 22:30); they did nothing to stop the course of wickedness which opened a door for the vengeance of God to break in upon their nation.
