Forced, at the end of seven years, to resign these functions, as they were incompatible with the ecclesiastical calling, he transferred them to Amaury of Montfort, count of Evreux, without the consent of the king, who seized his chateau at Livry as a punishment, but afterwards consented, about 1129, to receive Garlande and Amaury into his favor, on condition that they should resign their claims to the office of seneschal.
