Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

a reputable historical painter of Madrid, was born about 1550. He painted several subjects from the life of St. Jerome; also the large picture of the Martyrdom of St. Ursula. He restored the Annunciation and the St. Jerome Penitent, by F. Zucchero, which Philip II had rejected and ordered to be retouched; He died in 1597. See Hoefer, Nouv. Biog.
