a Presbyterian divine, was born at Granville, N.Y., January 11, 1802. He graduated from Middlebury College in 1826; studied theology privately; taught in Middlebury for some two years; was ordained at Hebron, August 27, 1830; was successively pastor at Glenn's Falls and Sandy Hill for one year thereafter; at Bloomfield, N.J., the next year; over the First Congregational Church at Norwalk, Connecticut, for twenty-two years, and in 1854 became professor of Christian theology in Auburn Theological Seminary, a position which he retained until his death, September 8, 1877.
