Harte, Walter

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

an English poet and divine, was born about 1700, and educated at Marlborough School and at St. Mary's Hall, Oxford, of which he became vice-principal. He was canon of Windsor in 1751, and subsequently vicar of St. Austel and of St. Blazy, Cornwall. He died in March, 1774, leaving Poems on Several Occasions (1727): Essay on Satire (1730): Essay on Reason (1735): A Fast Sermon (1740). See Chalmers, Biog.
