Hawker, Robert, D.D.

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

an English divine, was born at Exeter, England, in 1753, and educated at Magdalen College, Oxford. He obtained the vicarage of Charles, Plymouth. which he held until his death in 1827, with the respect and love of his people. In doctrine he was a Calvinist, with a strong Antimomian tendency. His writings are, The Poor Man's Commentary on O.T. and N.T. (last edit. Lond. 3 vols. 4to): Sermons, Meditations, Lectures, etc., included in his Works, with a Memoir of his Life, by the Rev. J.
