Hawkins, William

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

an English clergyman, was born in 1722, and was educated at Pembroke College, Oxford, where he became fellow, and was made professor of poetry in 1751. He was afterwards successively prebendary of Wells, rector of Casterton, and vicar of Whitchurch, Dorsetshire. He died in 1801. He published Discourses on Scripture Mysteries, Bampton Lectures for 1787 (Oxford, 1787, 8vo); and a number of occasional sermons. Darling, Cyclop.
