Holder, Wilhelm

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(also known as Frater Wilhelmus de Stutgardia Ordinis Minorum), a Wü rtemberg philosopher and theologian, was born at Marbach in 1542, and educated at Tü bingen. He distinguished himself especially by his great opposition to scholastic philosophy and theology, against which he wrote Mus exenteratus contra Joannern Pistorium (Tü b. 1593, 4to): a very rare and curious work on the Mass and baptism, of which extracts have been given in the N. Gö tting. Hist. Mag. vol. 2, pt. 4:p. 716 sq.: also Petitorium exhortatorium pro resolutorio super grossis quibusdam dubietatibus et quaestionibus, e.c. (Tü bing. 1594, 4to). He died July 24, 1609.
