a Presbyterian minister and educator, was born at Fairfield, Connecticut, January 28, 1809. He graduated from Amherst College in 1828, and from Andover Theological Seminary in 1833. He was a pastor until 1853, when he became professor of church history in the Presbyterian Theological Seminary at Danville, Kentucky, remaining there until 1866, when he became pastor at Louisville.
