Husgen, Johann

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

a German Roman Catholic divine, was born at Giesenkirchen, near Cologne, in 1769. In 1792 he became vicar and teacher at his native place, and after filling different vicarages, was appointed superintendent over the Roman Catholic schools at Aix-la-Chapelle in 1816, in 1825 general vicar to archbishop Spiegel of Desenberg and dean in Cologne, and in 1835, upon the death of the archbishop, presiding officer of the archiepiscopacy pro tem, in which offices he greatly distinguished himself by his kind and conciliatory spirit towards all sects.
