(Heb. id. עַירשֶׁמֶשׁ, in pause שׁמֶשׁעַיר, city of the sun; Sept. πόλιςΣάμες, Vulg. Hirsemes, id est civitas solis), a town on the border of Dan, mentioned between Eshtaol and Shaalabbin (Joshua 19:41); probably the same as the BETH-SHEMIESH (See BETH-SHEMIESH) (q.v.) of Joshua 15:10.
