Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(Heb. Yakin', יָכַין, firm; Sept. Ι᾿αχείν, Ι᾿αχίν ), the name of three men and also of a pillar.

1. The fourth named of the sons of Simeon (Genesis 46:10; Exodus 6:15), called JARIB in 1 Chronicles 4:24. His descendants are called JACHINITES (Heb. Yakini', יָכַינַי, Sept. Ι᾿αχινί, Numbers 26:12). B.C. 1856.

2. The head of the twenty-first "course" of priests as arranged by David (1 Chronicles 24:17). B.C. 1014.

3. One of the priests that returned to Jerusalem after the Exile (1 Chronicles 9:10; Nehemiah 11:10). B.C. 536.
