Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

a Methodist Episcopal minister, was born at Hartford, Connecticut, October 7, 1826. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1848, taught in various schools until he joined the Genesee Conference, and held several pastorates until 1870, when he became professor of historical theology in Boston Theological Seminary. In 1874 he became dean and professor of systematic theology, which position he. held until his death, November 26, 1884.
