a Jewish rabbi, was born at Munich in 1815. He studied at his native place, and graduated in 1837 as doctor of philosophy. In 1839 he received a call as director of the Hebrew school at Riga, Russia. In 1845 he resigned his position and went to New York city, where he was elected rabbi of three congregations, an office which he, however, resigned to open a Jewish boarding-school. In 1855 he accepted a call to the congregation at Cincinnati, and died April 1, 1882. Besides sermons and addresses, he published, Ueber den Ursprung der judisch-alexandrinischen Religionsphilosophie (Munich, 1839): — Bibliographische Notizen uber die hebraischen Manuscripte der konigl.
