a Protestant Episcopal minister, was born at New Haven, Connecticut, August 8, 1803. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1827; studied law; for several years was secretary of civil and military affairs, but afterwards entered the ministry; and for about nine years was rector of the parish in Montpelier, Vermont, which he himself had organized.
