Parkman, Francis D.D.

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

a Unitarian minister was born in the city of Boston June 4,1788. He was educated at Harvard University, class of 1807. He studied theology under Dr. William E. Channing, and at the University of Edinburgh. He. was ordained Dec. 8 1813. From 1813 to 1849 he was pastor of the New North Church in Boston. He died at Boston Nov. 12, 1852. Dr. Parkman published The Offering of Sympathy (1829) and some occasional sermons and addresses. The Parkman professorship of pulpit eloquence and pastoral care in the Cambridge Theological School was founded by his munificence; and he took an active part in nearly all the most important charitable institutions of his native city.
