is the rendering in the A.V. of three Heb. and two Greek words.
1. חוֹ, choph (so called from being chafed by the waves [Gesen.], or enclosed [Furst]; comp. Engl. cove, and the modern town Chaifa), a roadstead (Judges 5:17; Jeremiah 47:7; "coast" in Joshua 9:1; Ezekiel 25:10; "haven" in Genesis 49:13; "side" in Deuteronomy 1:7); αἰγιαλός, a beach (Matthew 13:2; Matthew 13:48; John 21:4; Acts 21:5; Acts 27:39-40).
2. קָצֶה, katseh, the extremity of the land (Joshua 15:2; elsewhere "brim," "brink," etc.).
3. שָׂפָה, saphah, a lip (as often, sometimes "brink," "bank," etc.); χεῖλος, the lip (as usually, "shore" only in Hebrews 11:12). (See SEA).
