Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(Heb. Tach'an, תִּחִן, camp [Gesenius], or graciousness [Furst]), the name of two descendants of Ephraim.

1. (Sept. Τανάχ v.r. Ταναϊ v; Vulg. Thehen.) The head of one of the families of the Ephraimites at the end of the Exode (Numbers 26:35). B.C. ante 1618. (See TAHANITE).

2. (Sept. Θαέν v.r. Θαάν; Vulg. Thaan.) Son of Telah and father of Laadan in the Palestinian lineage of Ephraim (1 Chronicles 7:25). B.C. post 1618.
