Banu Aus

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

An Arab tribe that came to Medina together with the Banu Khazraj (about 300), and settled there among the Jewish inhabitants of the place. For some time they lived under Jewish protection and intermarried with them; but, gettingstronger, they gradually made themselves masters of the place, and oppressed the Jews. Eventually they invited Mohammed to live in Medina. This ended in the complete overthrow of the Jews, who were partly expelled and partly massacred.
