Beer, Aaron

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

Chief cantor of the Jewish congregation of Berlin; born 1738; died Jan. 3, 1821, in the fiftieth year of his official capacity as cantor. He possessed a well-trained tenor voice of extraordinary compass and rich and powerful quality; and such was his fame, about 1770, that music-lovers gathered from far and near to hear him. The Royal Library at Berlin contains a fine picture which represents him as a young man, holding in his hand a title-page with the motto "Immer Besing Ich des Ewigen Huld" (Psalms 89:2 [A. V. 1]).
