Bene-Berak

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

A town assigned to Dan (Joshua 19:45). It was situated on the seacoast plain southeast of Joppa, and is to be identified with the modern Ibn Ibrak (Buhl, "Geographie," p. 196). The Danites, however, did not continue to hold the place, since Sennacherib (Rawlinson, "Cuneiform Inscriptions of Western Asia," , plate 37, col. 2:66) mentions Banaibarḳa as belonging to Zidḳa. In later times Bene-Berak became the seat of Akiba's school (Sanh. 32b).
