A city of refuge in the territory of Reuben (Deuteronomy 4:43; Joshua 20:8). It was also one of the cities allotted the Levites by the tribe of Reuben (Joshua 21:36, Septuagint; 1 Chronicles 6:63 [A. V. 78]). In the Mesha inscription it is a Moabite city, probably the same as the Bozrah of Moab mentioned in Jeremiah 48:24. Bezer has not yet been identified with any of the cities whose ruins are found in the plateau of Moab. It must be distinguished from BOSOR or BOSORA.
