Chapman, John

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

English educationist and communal worker; born 1845. Educated at Jews' College, London, he became an assistant master in that institution, and was subsequently appointed head master of the Jews' Hospital and Orphan Asylum. He has been for many years principal of the Great Ealing proprietary school, at which large numbers of Jewish lads of the middle class have been trained. For a time Chapman was minister of the Western Synagogue, Haymarket. He is the honorary secretary of the council of Jews' College.

Chapman was one of the founders of Ealing Public Library.
