Hachmoni, the Son of

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

1. Jashobeam, one of David's mighty men (1 Chronicles 11:11). 2. Jehiel, tutor of David's children (ib. 32). The former, however, occurs in the English Authorized Version as "an Hachmonite." In the parallel list of 2 Samuel 23:8, the name of the same hero occurs as "Yosheb ba-Shebet Taḥkemoni,"which the Authorized Version translates "the Tachmonite that sat in the seat," the whole sentence being an epithet of ADINO THE EZNITE.
