Hashum

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

1. Chief of a family the members of which, two hundred and twenty-three in number, returned from captivity with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:19; comp. Nehemiah 7:22). Seven of them had married foreign women, whom they had to put away (Ezra 10:33). Hashum was among those who sealed the covenant with Nehemiah (Nehemiah 10:18). 2. One of the chiefs who stood on the left side of Ezra when he read the Law to the people (Nehemiah 8:4).
