A town of Benjamin, east of Beth-aven (1 Samuel 13:2 et passim; Nehemiah 11:31). The form "Michmas" () occurs in Ezra 2:27 and in Nehemiah 7:31, according to which the name may mean "hidden." Michmash is particularly known as the scene of the war between the Philistines and Saul and Jonathan (1 Samuel 13-; see Jonathan No. 2); and it is praised in the Mishnah for its excellent wheat (Men. 8:1).
