Simeon ha-Paḳoli
The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia
Tanna of the second generation; contemporary of R. Gamaliel II. at Jabneh. He arranged the eighteen benedictions of the daily prayer (Shemoneh 'Esreh) in the sequence in which they have been handed down (Ber. 28a). The name "Paḳoli" is said to have been derived from Simeon's occupation, which was that of a dealer in flax and wool (Rashi on Ber. 18a). Nothing further is known concerning him.
