Solomon, Simeon

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

English painter; born at Bristol 1834; died at London March 15, 1905; brother of Abraham SOLOMON. He early showed signs of artistic ability, and came under the influence of D. G. Rossetti. His drawings and paintings carry to an extreme the mystical and sensuous tendencies of the pre-Raphaelite school. He published a number of designs for The Song of Songs, and photographs of ten drawings illustrating Jewish ceremonial. Falling into degenerate habits, he was confined for a time in a sanitarium and lived a vagrant life the remainder of his days.
