Stieglitz, Heinrich

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

German writer; born at Arolsen, Waldeck, Feb. 22, 1801; died at Venice Aug. 23, 1849. He was educated at the universities of Göttingen and Leipsic, and in 1828 became teacher at a gymnasium in Berlin and custos of the Royal Library in that city; owing to ill health he had, however, to resign these positions. After the death of his wife he spent much time in traveling. He became a Christian.

Stieglitz was the author of the following works: "Bilder des Orient," Leipsic, 1831-33; "Stimmen der Zeit in Liedern," ib. 1834; "Das Dionysosfest," Berlin, 1836; "Bergesgrüsse," Munich, 1839.
