Agonyclites

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(Gr.ai, , γόνυ , and κλίνω ), a fanatical sect which arose in' the beginning of the 8th century. Their peculiar tenet was that people ought not to pray kneeling, but standing or dancing. They were not numerous, and were condemned by a council held at Jerusalem in 726.
