Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

(Hebrews Azriel', עִזְרַיאֵל , help of God), the name of three men.

1. (Sept. Ο᾿ζιήλ ) The father of Jerimoth, which latter was phylarch of the tribe of Naphtali under David (1 Chronicles 27:19). B.C. 1014.

2. (Sept. Ι᾿εζριήλ .) One of the valiant heads of families of the tribe of Manasseh east who were taken into captivity by the Assyrians as a punishment of their national idolatry (1 Chronicles 5:24). B.C. cir. 741.

3. (Sept. Ε᾿σριὴλ .) The father of Seraiah, which latter was one of the persons ordered by King Jehoiakim to seize Baruch and Jeremiah, and imprison them for sending him the roll of threatening prophecy (Jeremiah 36:26). B.C. 605.
