a Presbyterian minister, was born in South Carolina in 1795. After receiving a careful academical education, he entered the South Carolina College; studied theology in the seminary of the Reformed Presbyterian Church at Philadelphia; was licensed to preach by the Philadelphia Presbytery in 1827, and was pastor, for several years, of Hephzibah Church, in West Tennessee.
