Courtney, Ezra

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

a Baptist pioneer preacher, was born in Pennsylvania in 1771. He began to preach in the eastern part of the state in 1804, and, after itinerating some years, he became, in 1814, a resident in East Feliciana Parish, La. He died in 1855. He was an efficient and popular preacher, and was often elected moderator of the Mississippi Association, and other bodies of which he was a member. See Cathcart, Baptist Encyclop. page 282.
